About Me

About Me

Hello sweet friends! I'm so glad you're here! Here's a little bit about me...     I was born in Missouri, right outside of Kansas City. My family & I are die hard Chiefs fans... no seriously, my dad told my husband that he couldn't marry me unless he was a chiefs fan... I couldn't be married to a cowboys fan!      We moved around a lot during my childhood, but ended up here in Corpus Christi where I still live today with my own family. When I was in 4th grade we moved all the way from Minnesota to south Texas… you can imagine my shock with the temperature difference.      I went to public school for a little bit before my mom decided to homeschool my two brothers and I. Here in Corpus there's a big homeschool community, with lots of activities like drama, sports and even prom. I was a cheerleader and I actually met my husband because he played on our 6 man footbal...

What I've learned in my first year of Motherhood

I've been a mom now for 13 months. I know that isn't a long time, but hey I've made it this far right? Being a mom is serisouly one of my favorite things EVER. It’s given me a love for children that I didn’t know I had.

It’s also given me confidence that I didn’t know I had... like now I have to make doctors appointments?! I still would like MY mom to take me to the doctor LOL. In all seriousness though, I feel like a completely new person now that I’m a mom.

So let’s get into some things I’ve learned as a new mom.

   1. Not everything is going to be picture perfect

You might wanna try to make it all look pretty from the outside - but being a mom is messy. Not just literally, but you’re still learning and you’re going to make mistakes. You don’t have to try so hard to make it all look perfect. It’s okay to be a little messy (your house too).

  2. Let people help

You’re going to want to do it all by yourself, well because you can! But trust me you’ll burn out fast. You don’t want to blow up on the people around you because you didn’t take the help when it was offered. And don’t be afraid to ask for help either. Most of the people around you will be happy to help, you just have to ask.

3. You’re not doing ‘nothing’

You’re sitting with your baby, playing dinosaurs or reading a book, or maybe you’re just laying in bed cuddling. You keep telling yourself you need to stop doing nothing and start on the giant pile of laundry staring at you. You think yourself into a bad mood thinking about the annoying pile of dishes waiting for you. You’re doing nothing when there’s so much to do!

Let me tell you something. To your baby, your doing everything. They don’t care about the laundry or the dishes. You are their whole world and you are spending precious time with them. You’re growing their brain by playing with them and isn’t that so much more important than the dishes!? You aren’t doing nothing, the dishes can’t wait.

4. Laugh it out & be patient

Stuff is gonna happen that you have no control over. Like a huge diaper blow out on the way to church or when you were rushing out the door you forgot the diaper bag. Super inconvenient, but stop - breath - and laugh. It’s okay!! Give grace to everyone around you.

5. You will love this tiny human more than you can imagine

He or she will do the smallest thing and you will be in awe of their growing minds. You don’t know how you have so much love for this tiny person but you just know you’d do anything for them. Being a mom is the most beautiful thing.

             Your friend,

                  AlliJean
